Content Categories "Unknown". How is this created?

I read an Ezoic blog post about utilising the content categories report in analytics but when I look at it all I get is "Unknown".

How are these categories determined and is there anything I can do to start getting something meaningful from this report?

The way I interpreted the article was that it was giving the publisher greater insight into what visitors are browsing, but (at least for a WordPress site) it doesn't really appear to be offering much more than the built-in category, and isn't pulling that automatically either. I expect I will stick with analysis on an article level and seeing which general types of article are gaining the most traction. Thanks for the explanation.
