Removing auto generated ads

In the past few days, I've been investigating why one of my sites has a very low EPMV, and I've found something interesting. The ads are appearing in weird places on my website, they are appearing in the middle of paragraphs, or often the sidebar ad is right in the center of the article! My bet is that the old ad placeholders that were active on my old theme are still active but they are very messy due to the recent change of theme.

I did remove ads that were in the section of "ad tester", but unfortunately I can't remove auto generated ads, because there is no option for it in my Ezoic's dashboard and also in the plugin. Screenshot of it is below.

There are 2 buttons in the Ezoic's plugin "clear default configuration" and "reset configuration" but both of them are simply redirecting me to the list of auto generated ads and nothing more happens. Also, another screenshot of those buttons is below.

I can't leave it like that because it brakes the structure of my pages and my only option is to disable the auto generated ads, but that doesn't solve the problem, it's only a temporary solution. Can you guys somehow clear the list of auto generated ads for me, so I could generate a new set of ad placeholders for this new theme?

charmbeautify Sorry for the delayed response! You are able to wipe your placeholders from the old theme and start fresh with the WordPress plugin placeholders. How you will wipe the generated placeholders by either removing the plugin or by removing them from the Ezoic Dashboard. Then you can start new and place your placeholders where you would like.

krivera Unfortunately, I can't wipe the generated placeholders. As I said above there is no option to do that on Ezoic's dashboard, and also I can't do this inside the plugin. 2 buttons to clear default configuration are only redirecting and not doing anything else. Also after removing the plugin the configuration of the placeholder is saved, so I need another way to remove them.

charmbeautify thank you! so I just took a look at your site and it isn't your WordPress generated placeholders that are causing this issue it is your AI placeholders. If you don't want these ads to be showing in your content, you will want to disable your AI placeholders.

krivera I know that, right now on the site I just disabled all auto generated placeholders because they caused the mess. But they are still there only disabled temporarily.

My goal is to somehow remove the current placeholders from the screenshot below and generate a new bunch of placeholders, but 2 buttons in a plugin that should do this, are not doing the expected behaviour.

charmbeautify So, the issue isn't with your autogenerated ads, as you mentioned. It is with your AI placeholders which you can find the settings for in the main publisher dashboard under your ad tester settings. This is different than your WordPress Generated Ads.

krivera Are you sure that those placeholders are not autogenerated? Because I can see that they are exactly the same in the generated tab in my dashboard (screenshot below). But the main issue is how can I remove all of them?

charmbeautify I can promise you that your AI placeholders are not a part of your WordPress generated placeholders. You can disable your AI placeholders by going to your Dashboard > Ezoic Ads > Ad Types >Auto-Insert Ads and then you disable the AI placeholders.

krivera I did disable it, but even after that I still can see a lot of placeholders in my ezoic's plugin and also in the "generated placeholders" tab in the dashboard.

charmbeautify I do apologize for any confusion, but as stated before your AI placeholders and your generated placeholders are different and not connected in any way. I can see since you have disabled your AI placeholders that there are no longer ads showing in your content as before, this is what you wanted to stop correct?

charmbeautify Our Ad Tester team has suggested that you don't delete these placeholders. How you have it now is that all of your WP placeholders are disabled. Instead of creating new placeholders, you will want to change the ones you already have to what you want.

krivera But those placeholders were generated for a totally different theme. There are about 60 of them and fixing every single of them is going to take days/weeks. Deleting and clicking auto generate would be so much faster and better! Those two buttons from the plugin (screenshot below) should probably remove all of those placeholders, which would let me generate a new set. But unfortunately, they only redirect me, and nothing more happened.

charmbeautify WordPress Generated placeholders are not theme-specific. They work within WordPress to attempt to identify ad insertion locations based on the markup of the page after the theme has been processed. If we were to delete and regenerate the placeholders, they would be placed in the exact same location. Which then would cause a drop in revenue cause they would lose their performance information.

So as suggested by my team, if you are unhappy with the generated placeholders, you will need to make changes to these placeholders. If they are causing issues, we would be happy to take a further look but you would need to reenable the palceholders. Thanks!

krivera Ok, I did enable all placeholders in Ezoic's plugin settings, but the ads are not showing. I've found out that it is because the API key is missing after the reinstallation of the plugin, but unfortunately the API key was on the settings page of Ezoic's dashboard but it is missing right now. I can even remember that it was there, but it isn't right now. And also my other sites don't have an API key on the settings page. Was it moved? The plugin still redirects to the settings page.

Got it, API key added, and also the ads are enabled right now, but still the ads are not showing on the site.

charmbeautify When visiting your site, I am able to see ads show. You may need to clear your cache and cookies as you may be cached into the old version.
