I am still seeing ads on pages that aren't supposed to have ads.

Hi,

I thought that I had restricted ads on the pages that aren't supposed to have ads: contact us, about us, copyright and privacy policy pages. But, today I noticed that ads are still showing up. Hmmmm,

I think that it's because the rule set shows as:
mydomainname.com/?function=NameOfPageToRestrict

VS what I thought that I had used within Ezoic Ads>Ad Restriction>DisableAdsByPage:
mydomainname.com/index.php?function=NameOfPageToRestrict

In the footer on my index page, and on others, it seems that all the links are the second pattern, without 'index.php', and yet, other footer pages on my site show the correct links: ie: mydomainname.com//index.php?function=NameOfPageToRestrict

I have updated the contact us page to reflect what I believe is the code.

Any ideas?

And, is it possible to have someone reset all the footer pages that are missing the 'index.php' naming convention?

Hi! Can I take a step back for a moment and ask why you're unable to use a more traditional URL structure such as mydomainname.com/about or mydomainname.com/contact? Then you would just need to add /about and /contact to the 'Disable Ads by Page app. This would also be clearer for the user. Is there a reason you've added ?function= or index.php?function= to the end of the URL?

Okay, so to clarify, you wish for your URLs to look like mydomainname.com/index.php?function=NameOfPageToRestrict. On some pages, this is linked to correctly but on others this is not the case? And to confirm, you have updated all pages to link to the correct URL format? If so, that's not something we can help with unfortunately because that's happening on the origin end, independently of Ezoic.

We can help you update the 'Disable Ads by Page' app to point to the correct URLs but it sounds like you first need to fix the issue on the origin end whereby not all pages are linking to the correct URL. Once you then have a consistent structure that is working on all pages, the app just needs to be updated to point to those same URLs (looks like you've already done this for the About Us page but not the Copyright, Privacy Policy and Contact Us pages as those are all still pointing to mydomainname.com/?function=contentCopyright etc..

I will check with my programmer to make sure that the links in the footer to : sitemap, contactus, etc are correct.

I will also update the links in 'Disable Ads by Page' within Exoic Ads.

As for the programming of the pages (AboutUs, Contact, sitemap, etc). I don't code that. I input the information and the system seems to look after itself. LOL

Whenever I create content, the behind the scenes is programmed for me when I click: update.
For example: I just finished updating this section earlier today:
mydomainname.com/index.php?function=DisplayCategory&showCategory=Y&links=2&id=405&link1=101&link2=405

And, when you 'mouse over' the footer links, the all reflect the /index.php? format.

lizv Hey there, hope you're doing well today. I've taken a look into this for you and I have noticed that, despite the URLs being a bit unusual, the rules do appear to be working on my end. I'm not seeing any ads on the Contact Us, About Us, Copyright, etc. pages.

That said, I am seeing a Humix video on these pages - is this the ad that you're still seeing or are you seeing other ads?

If it is just the video, these can be disabled via the Humix dashboard, under "Site" and "Disable Locations". We treat videos as different to ads, so this can sometimes be a common area of confusion.

I disabled the About Us and Copyright pages within the Humix dashboard. Cleared the URL cache. And, I also cleared my cache.

I then rechecked those 2 pages, both incognito mode and regular mode. They videos continue to show up using both modes. I also rechecked the remaining pages (SiteMap, ContactUs, etc) in the footer. I don't see any ads of any kind. (Well, as of this note. LOL)

UPDATE re the footer links on my index page: my programmer is looking into it for me.

I'm no longer seeing videos on https://learnwithpuzzles.com/index.php?function=contentAboutUs and https://learnwithpuzzles.com/index.php?function=contentCopyright, though I do see them on https://learnwithpuzzles.com/?function=contentAboutUs and https://learnwithpuzzles.com/?function=contentCopyright so have added a couple of further rules to prevent that, just whilst your programmer updates the footer links on your index page 🙂

You should therefore no longer be seeing ads on any of these pages but please let us know if that is not the case!

That is correct:
l. I do not see any ads, including video ads, on the pages coded with the /index.php?=function=NameOfPage

I DO see ads of all kinds for the pages coded /?function=NameOfPage

My programmer advised me to hardcode the URLs within the contentFooter.php file on my site. I did that. There was no change.

Still working on it.

Hi,

There has been a major shift in ads. Basically, there are none, except the video ad. Everything else has disappeared.

Two separate sources confirm that for me. The index page seems okay.

lizv I've taken a look into this again and I am still seeing ads, including now on the pages that should be excluded. Are you still having issues on other pages?

I've went ahead and added some rules to your Disable Ads by Page rule under the "Query Parameter" section, which should behave a bit more consistently than the other rules. Could you please allow for an hour (to allow this rule to take effect) and then let me know if you're still seeing ads where you shouldn't be?

There is still a major problem with ads NOT showing up on every page I checked, both using the menu tab, and when I select any given image on a page. Those pages only show a video ad.

And, the pages that are not supposed to have them (AboutUs, ContactUs, Glossary, Coypright, SiteMap, PrivacyPolicy), currently are free and clear of any ads. (as of this reply: 09:07 EDT )

I have attached 5 images for your reference. They are void of any ads, of any sort, except for the video ad.

There are supposed to be leaderboard ads, ads near the footer, ads on the subcategory pages and ads on pages with multiple images and ads on pages where there is only one piece of content (that includes the page where there is both a PDF and google slide available). I see no ads. (save the video ad). I have included a breadcrumb to help show the pathway for the content.

People I have asked to take a look at my site report the same results: no ads

Is there anybody who can help fix this? What about the US office? They were contacted once before when I had ads showing behind a login, and they fixed it.

Please help.

Oops..the text in the image showing the video ad should have read: "...video ad that you see bottom RIGHT..."

I see that your site runs off of an index.php system rather than a normal URL system. Could we get more information as to how this works? This is likely causing issues with the placement of ads, as each page is a separate parameter, rather than a different page on the site.

Hi JeanPierre,

I have a custom .php website, that uses includes, so that when you click on an image it goes to the database and pulls the file.

I don't understand why all of a sudden within the space of less than 8 hours that this happened, after working properly, or what seemed properly, since the end of April.

And, the contentFooter.php file that I hard coded with the correct URLs to update the footer file failed to render properly. Something is not sticking.

I've tried this cached & un-cached and while using a VPN and have consistently been able to see ads. I'm, also, still seeing ad impressions logged in our back-end across today and yesterday, so I don't think this is impacting the majority of your site's visitors.

Could you please try clearing your browser's cache and cookies and check again? If possible, could you check on a different device too?

Have you seen the screenshots, I shared, where I drill down to all the pages that do not show ads?
Numerous people in different parts of the world indicate the same problem that I am seeing.
See attached image: Why is there revenue for fewer site visits when compared to almost double the visits showing $0.00 (July 25)?
I have used VPN from different parts of the world: NO CHANGE
I have used 3 different browsers to access my site: NO CHANGE
I have used incognito mode with and without VPN: NO CHANGE

I need resolution to this issue in the next 48 hours. Otherwise, I will need to reconsider other options and move away from Ezoic.

lizv Hi there, hope you're well. I don't think it's fair to say that I was just repeating back what you told me; you said in your prior message that "There is still a major problem with ads NOT showing up on every page I checked".

That said, I've pushed through a change that I believe should fix this. It looks like the query parameters I entered previously were behaving strangely and were excluding ads from pages that weren't necessarily covered by the rule. This may lead to ads showing on the excluded pages again. If that's the case, I can reach out to our engineers and see if a solution exists for your site's set-up, but given how unorthodox your site set-up is (using query parameters rather than separate URLs to distinguish between pages); I can't promise that a simple solution will be available for this.

Can you please check back once at least an hour has passed and let me know if you are seeing ads again?

I checked the pages that were previously excluded using both regular and incognito modes, with VPN set to different countries and then again, without VPN.

RESULTS: For all links in the footer, regardless of the mode I used, there were no ads seen.

So, thank you for doing that.

Using incognito mode, no VPN, I explored my site. No ads appeared anywhere, except for the occasional video ad.

Using no VPN, both incognito and no incognito window I checked out my index page. It remains the same: ads present and the update I made to my footer links, at the beginning of the week, is not reflected on this page.

I cannot understand why for 3 months (April 24 to July 24) things were moving along with all forms of ads showing on all pages requested. Less than 24 hours after I got the email from Heather Murdoch telling me that I had moved from the Onboarding Community to the Global Community, the only page that ads show up is the index page. I don't understand why it won't update. As of 10:03AM EDT, I cleared the page's cache, again, through Ezoic.

I wonder if the transition from the Onboarding Community to the Global Community caused my site to hit a snag.

I agree with your recommendation to have one of your engineers look at my site.

They found a solution to a prior issue I had with having ads show up behind a login.

lizv I've been thinking about this and looking at the page rules and I think I've found the issue. I made a mistake previously by focusing on the Query Parameter rules, assuming they were the problem - but I was wrong, these are actually the rules that we need. The problem is that we had page rules for pages like https://domain.com/index.php?function=ContactUs. Our Disable Ads by Page tool was ignoring the query string, which meant that it was excluding ads from any URL beginning with https://domain.com/index.php - as those are technically the same page.

That meant that this rule was excluding ads from pages like: https://domain.com/index.php?function=DisplayCategory&showCategory=Y&links=2&id=393&link1=102&link2=393, which we obviously didn't want. The only page that wouldn't be excluded by that rule would be the homepage, which is just domain.com (as it doesn't have the /index.php on first load).

I've went ahead and removed these page rules and have re-added the Query Parameter rules to target the ?function=ContactUs (and similar pages). I'm quite confident that this will cause the ads to reappear on the site. I'm slightly less confident that it will exclude them from the necessary pages, but this should, in theory work. If it doesn't, let me know and I can get our engineers to check this.

Again, it'll take up to 30 minutes from me making these changes for them to take effect. Can you please check the site, once that time has passed, and let me know how things are looking? 🙂
