Mobile Menu Conflicting With Ads?

Hi all, I just did a site redesign and my mobile menu appears to be conflicting with ads. The menu works perfectly in Brave (which blocks the ads), but it doesn't work in Chrome or Edge, which don't.

You can easily replicate the issue by narrowing your browser window until the mobile menu hamburger displays in the upper right. If you click on the hamburger, you'll see a few menu items. Click the down caret for the first menu item, which is labeled "Today's Interest Rates". A sub menu should display with several options, but the the submenu won't display at all. Any ideas how to resolve? Thanks!

myhecm When changing themes, I'd highly recommend clearing Leap optimization data via the Leap dashboard, as sometimes optimizations for one theme and can break another. I've tested this, just to double-check and it seems to have done the trick in this instance. Let me know if it's still not working. 🙂

Hi Lilla, I didn't change themes - it was just a styling tweak to the existing theme. The only major change was the home page, which I rebuilt from scratch.

I'm still showing the menu not working in Chrome at this point.

myhecm It appears to be working on my end, unless I make my Chrome window ridiculously thin (then the text on the dropdown gets slightly distorted), but I don't think phone exist with those dimensions. I'd recommend running through the following steps, if it's still not working for you:

Clear the cache in the Leap dashboard and check to see if this makes a difference.
If that's not fixed the issue, then it will likely be an issue with one of the below features in Leap. I would recommend testing with these disabled (it may be a combination of them) on the Preview version of the site, to see which allow this setting to work for you.

Potential Settings: Script Delay (under Script Execution), Critical CSS (under CSS) and Remove Unused CSS (under CSS).

Once you've found the culprit you can either leave that feature disabled, or if you know the names of the scripts responsible for your menu - you may be able to add an exclusion rule for them, to stop them from breaking this feature.

Hi Lilla, when I clear the cache, it doesn't seem to have an effect on anything. Is there something I'm missing? I updated the last few paragraphs on this URL an hour or two ago, have since cleared the entire Ezoic cache, the entire Cloudflare cache, the cache at my ISP (which I'm not using anyway), the browser caches for Chrome, Brave, and Edge, and I'm still not seeing the changes on the live site.

Thanks Michael! I'm able to see changes now, but there's still a weird issue with my menus. The menus appear to be working (which is good), but some styling or script is still being interfered with by ads. The menu item hover effect doesn't seem to work on a page with ads. It always seems to work on a page with no ads.

To replicate the issue, go to the Home page and check the following:

1) On widescreen/desktop - If you hover over the Interest Rates menu, you'll see the gray sub menu drop down. If you hover over any of the gray sub menu items, they should highlight with a slightly lighter gray. This doesn't appear to work on the Home page.
2) On the mobile menu - Narrow the browser window and click the hamburger at the upper right and a dark blue menu will drop down. Click the down caret for "Today's Interest Rates" and a gray submenu will display. If you hover over any of the gray submenu items with your mouse, they should highlight in a lighter gray as well.

Now, to compare, do the above two steps on this URL, which has no ads: https://www.myhecm.com/mortgage-101/current-refinance-mortgage-rates/. The highlighting should work fine on this URL.

So, the menu highlighting doesn't work on the Home page (which has ads), but it works fine on the "Current Refinance Mortgage Rates" page (which has no ads).

myhecm I am able to recreate the issue now, apologies I hadn't fully understood previously. It does still look like it's a Leap issue, though. You can test this by going to https://www.myhecm.com/?sitespeed_preview=-1 (open in Incognito, or you'll need to clear your cookies afterwards) and seeing that the menu works fine on that version of the site.

Were you able to carry out the steps that I advised above with the Leap settings (the CSS and Script Delay)? I'm reasonably confident that this should work. 🙂

Thanks Lilla! I tried shutting off the "Unused CSS" and it appears to have resolved the issue. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! 🙂
