  • Sketchy Ads, Dangerous Ads, and Ad Placement

Hi,
I'm having several different ad problems that are a problem for UX and safety.

  1. Sketchy Ads- I've mentioned before adult content anime ads that show up in mobile version. You told me to report them to google, which worked for awhile. Now, they are back with a vengeance, and they have somehow masked the button to click to report to google. If you attempt to hit the adchoice button or the X, it takes you to the URL (a URL I blocked in Ezoic, btw, to no avail). I can't find a way in mobile Safari to inspect the link. I've attached screenshots.
  2. Dangerous Ads- On the desktop version, I had an ad literally take over my page without a click and start telling me I had viruses on my computer. There was no way to return to the page. I hit the back button and it took me to the previous page. Hitting forward only went back to the suspicious link. The page I was on disappeared. I didn't get a chance to screen grab it because I began running antivirus software, lol.
  3. Ad Bug- On desktop, I frequently get native ads that scroll under the text like they are part of the background. They can't be clicked on or exited, switching to Ezoic mode refreshes the page, so I can't figure out which placeholder is broken. They aren't sketchy ads (big companies), but they hurt the ability to read the page.
  4. Ad Placement- On my homepage (/blog) and my archive page (/blog-archive), the AI placeholder regularly puts ads between the feature image and the title of a post, making everything look disorganized and crazy. Should I turn off native ads on those pages?

TIA

    1. I have not been able to see these ads loading on the mobile version of your site. Since these ads come from Adsense, you may need to try adding their URL to the advertisement blocker within Adsense.
    2. Ezoic nor Adsense will create redirect ads on the site so this may very well be a form of site malware. You can look into this with your host to make sure that your .htacess has not been edited by a plugin or function on your site.
    3. Are there certain pages that you see this happening on? It may be worth deleting the current native ad placeholder and creating a new one to make sure that the ad is not connected to the wrong div on the site.
    4. It doesn't seem as though there is much space for ads on these pages, so it may be worth disabling ads entirely on these URLs. Otherwise, you'll likely need to use the Ezoic Chrome extension to make sure that the misplaced placeholders are not showing on those pages.

Ok I added a no-ad rule to those pages. I can't figure out how to do it for the homepage.

seconddadtotheright glad to hear it! Do let us know if you are still seeing unwanted ads even after explicitly blocking them via AdSense. Although any rules you add to our own 'Advertiser Blocker' app will prevent those ads from coming via Google AdX, they don't apply to our header bidding partners unfortunately. We can take further steps to try and prevent these, however this would come at the cost of revenue from those header bidding partners unfortunately. Let us know if that's something you'd like to pursue however. Please do also let us know if there is a particular URL where we can replicate the formatting issue caused by the native ad as we've not been able to reproduce that from this end just yet 🙂
