  • Humix thumbnail got indexed instead of featured image in my blog post

Hello,

I've been facing some issues with the humix videos in my blog recently and would appreciate any guidance in resolving it.

The problem is that the thumbnail of a Humix video is being indexed for my blog posts instead of the designated featured image.

I don't know why it got indexed like that, but I believe this issue arises because sometimes the Humix video appears in the first viewport, even above the blog post title, despite having configured my auto-insert Humix settings to display in the 2nd viewport (Default). I think just because it appeared first in my blog post, google assumes this may be the featured image for the blog post. I even cleared the auto-insert cache, but still, sometimes the video got in the first viewport.

I don't want to entirely switch off humix videos because they contribute nearly 10% of my revenue. However, the current situation with the indexed thumbnails is affecting the presentation of my blog posts in SERP and I fear it may impact my Google rankings.

Any guidance on how to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nithishcnk Hey, I've just accessed the stie and a few of your blog posts and I am seeing a lot of broken CSS. When I view an uncached version of the page, it loads without issues, and the video is also showing in the 2nd viewport. Do you have any external caching enabled that could be forcing you to an older, cached version of the site with the old video settings enabled? I've checked a few page and I am definitely seeing the video player in the second viewport. Can you send over a URL example for us to take a look at if you are still encountering the issue after flushing your browser cache, as well as any caching technologies you are using on the site?

      Hello,
Thank you for taking a look.
I also see the video player in the second viewport. I mentioned that sometimes only the video player appears in the first viewport (maybe 1 in 10 situations). I also like to add that I haven't changed any humix settings since I enabled it (almost 2 months).
That being said, my problem is not the above one. Even though, the video player appears in the second viewport, the humix thumbnail still got indexed instead of the designated featured image.

In the above screenshot, you can see even though the video player appears in the second viewport, the thumbnail of the video got indexed as a featured image instead of a designated one. (Screenshot article link: [https://civilunlimited.com/calculate-how-many-steps-in-flight-of-stairs/])

This problem arises in many of my articles (Please take a look at the first screenshot).

Please take a look and let me know if I can do anything to resolve this issue.

      Thanks in advance.

Are you able to provide us with any information on your non-Ezoic caching setup?
As Imogen asked / pointed out earlier, the CSS being broken usually indicates a need to a cache clear of all caching systems, or could indicate incompatible caching being enabled.
Sorting out the CSS issues first would go a long way to resolving any indexing issues you've mentioned, since we can't rule out that Google is pulling that Humix image rather than the featured image due to display issues on the site when crawled.

          Hello,
I have been using the Litespeed cache plugin for my caching. I have been using it from the moment my website was built and went live. I didn't encounter any compatibility issues with my caching up until now.
I have the video player on my website for almost 2 months. I didn't see any problems in the first month. I have seen this problem majorly in the last month.
Let me know if I can resolve this issue, If not I can either move down the humix video to 3-4 viewports or I can temporarily disable it so that my featured images get a chance to be indexed again.
But I want to resort to the above two options as a final step because both can impact my revenue.

Nithishcnk Hi, can you go ahead and disable Litespeed cache? The plugin isn't compatible with Ezoic and is likely storing older versions of your site. I appreciate you've not had issues with Litespeed/caching until now but incompatibilities won't always occur right away. I am confident this'll fix the viewport issue.

In terms of the Humix thumbnails being indexed over your featured image, Google will choose whichever image they deem to be best quality on the page as the thumbnail, so it won't necessarily be your featured image if the Humix thumbnail is of better quality. Our team recommended adding an og:image tag to the featured image to see if that helps Google pick it as the image that shows in indexed results, but you'll also want to make sure the image quality is as high as possible.

              Hi Ethan,
              Thank you for your response.

I have some questions regarding website caching,
              1) If I disable Litespeed caching, then ezoic caching only is enough or I need to install an additional caching plugin.
              2) If an additional plugin is needed, What is your go-to recommendation which is also compatible with ezoic?

Regarding the humix thumbnail indexing issue,
I understand that Google can choose whichever image seems fit to the content as the featured image. I also experience it with other images in my blog post. For example, In some of my lists type blog posts, along with the featured image, Google indexes some of the other images that are in the list. So, I think even moving humix video to other ports (3,4) also results in the same problem.
Since I am going through so much in my personal life, I think I don't have enough time to resolve this issue at this point. So, I think I will temporarily disable the humix videos on my site so that the other images get a chance to be indexed again. I am well aware that this can potentially affect my revenue. But my traffic and earnings are still low at this point, so a loss of a few bucks won't affect me. In the meantime, I will focus on the content creation, and when things go well in my personal life, I will hire a specialist to clean my website code and once again I will switch on the humix player.
And I would also like to know whether this problem occurs only to me or does it happen to any others.

Hi there - hope you're well!

1./2. No need to install any additional caching. Ezoic CDN is phenomenal for sites: https://support.ezoic.com/kb/article/how-does-ezoic-caching-app-work

As far as the image indexing, as was pointed out earlier adding a tag to the image you'd prefer indexed can work in some instances. Improving image quality would typically help as well.

We typically recommend against seeking outside assistance for any Ezoic related issues - we'd much rather you come to our staff rather than rely on outside sources that we can't verify credentials for.

                  Hi there,

Thank you for your response about the caching. I will definitely look into it.

Regarding the outside assistance, Just to clarify, I talked about the broken CSS issues on my website theme as some of your team members mentioned above. I won't seek any assistance outside for ezoic-related issues. I have found the community forum here to be incredibly helpful, and I'm grateful for the support I've received.

Regarding the image indexing problem, I plan to temporarily disable humix for some time. In the future, I will implement your recommendations and enable humix accordingly.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the team members for taking the time to look into this issue and for providing guidance.
