When a publisher says, "I had a great month of video revenue!" they could be talking about several different metrics:
- Revenue from advertisements that are specifically videos
- Revenue from video player with pre, mid, and end roll advertisements
- Revenue from pageviews with video advertisements in them
- Overall page/site revenue with video advertisements in them
As you can see below, advertiser spend on videos has gone way up, as has video engagement on sites. This is an extremely lucrative strategy you can apply to your site, and video revenue is stronger than ever.

Still, it's easy to become confused and wary about "video revenue;" let's talk about the difference between video revenue and display revenue.
The difference between "video revenue" and "displayed revenue" is video revenue is the overall amount, and displayed is the revenue generated from video on your page from other peoples videos.
Display ad revenue is essentially all ads that aren't related to video, whereas video ad revenue comes in two forms: instream and outstream. Outstream has no accompanying video content with it (our floating video ad unit you can enable in EzoicAds), and instream is video ads played with video contentinstream ads have 3 distinctions:
- Preroll - before the video plays
- Midroll - during the video
- Postroll - after the video plays
The thing with display revenue and videos is that display ads refresh every can refresh every 20–30 seconds or so, and videos keep people on the page longer. So while not directly attributable to a video in terms of revenue sources, having videos on your page will keep people on the page longer and allow you to earn more revenue from display ads, all while also earning revenue from video ads.
Here are a couple examples of Ezoic publishers who were not using videos at all, then enabled engage network videos, and suddenly their overall revenue saw a significant increase thanks to video:

As you can see from this picture here, the left is this site using YouTube, and once they cross this line is when they started using Humix instead. Huge drop in first input delay FID (36%). Same for cumulative layout shift CLS (25%). Our team behind the tool know exactly how big videos are going to be, where they're going to go upon page loading, so there's no janky video rendering for audiences.
Also a 4% less bounce rate, and a 37% increase in engaged pageviews! Why? Video style can be customized and maybe matching page content, etc. 68%(!!!!) increase in overall page revenue.
