ezoic is doing a https to http redirection chain

I manage quite a few domains and have been working in the internet business for two decades. I know what a redirect chain is. I only mention it so that no one writes to me that I should look for the error in my WordPress.

EZOIC started redirecting calls from https to http a few hours ago.

To make troubleshooting easier and to narrow it down to EZOIC, I completely emptied my root. folder and just put in an index.php that prints a "test" when called. No htaccess is active anymore.

Still, there is a forwarding chain and I would appreciate if EZOIC support could fix this or let me know what I need to change to make it work again.

I haven't changed anything on the domain and haven't adjusted anything in EZOIC for weeks.

sirapfelot When I bypass the Ezoic proxy and connect directly to the origin server IP address, I actually do see the "test" page that you set up. Just to make sure, did you happen to change hosting platforms recently? I'm wondering if the Ezoic DNS records are not up to date. Or if it's not that, it could be the SSL settings we have from our side do not match what's at your host.

APerez No, I changed nothing for months. The SSL on my site is not uptodate, because I can't create a certificate when the dns points to another server.

I had the same problems some months ago and an ezoic support technican changed something on their side. But I have no idea what they did.

I've set your SSL settings to "Flexible" with the HTTPS redirect active. The site is now showing correctly on our end. Could you please test this on your side?

JeanPierre The frontsite works, but when I want to login to my wp-admin, I still get a redirection chain. Please check and repair it… thanks

Looks like the site is still redirecting without Ezoic active on the site. Do you have an intentional redirect on your wp-admin page?

I did not change anything. I never added any redirection to my wp-admin. If you take a look in my support ticket, you will see that there was this issue some weeks ago and the fault was not on my site. It was solved by a technical on your site. So I just can't do anything here…

Yes of course, so when using Ezoic SSL the settings we need to use depend on the setup at your host, because this changed again we needed to update these. You can see the different settings and when these should be used here: Using SSL with Ezoic

Hey there! I've spoken to our engineers and we may have found the cause of the issue. We've set the SSL back to full since the SSL is still on your host, just expired. It seems there is an http-https redirect set up along with a www redirect. This is what is causing the redirect error. You'll want to check your .htaccess file rules to make sure that these redirects are not set up. You can also reach out to your host if you can not locate them.

I just cleared the whole htaccess-file and tested the wp-admin, but no changes here.

I can't do anything more here…

I am really disappointed by EZOIC, because these kind of problems appear quite often and no one has any idea, what it could be.

By the way, now EZOIC redirects the http urls to https… what the heck is wrong with your system?!

Without Ezoic active on the site, there is still a forced redirect. This means that it is either coming from WordPress or your host. This is what we need to get rid of in order to resolve the issue:

Ok, I think I can only proof, that the problem is not on my hoster or in my installation, when I switch the DNS to my server. I will update you, when I installed the new certificate and the website is running without EZOIC DNS.

On my site, everything works fine now. wp-admin is not doing strange redirections and EZOIC is bypassed…
please check it on your site and confirm, if it's working on your site too.

sirapfelot I'm glad to hear that the issue seems to be resolved. Please can you clarify the steps that you are looking for us to double check for you and we can then go from there.

Alternatively if you are looking for reassurance that you aren't seeing a cached version of your site you can clear your devices cache and cookies and then look at your site in incognito mode or alternatively view your site on a device that you don't normally use to access your site. many thanks

Ok, just from the start: I switched DNS away from EZOIC, because the other supporter was the opinion, that the redirection problem is based on my hosting. If that would be the case, the redirection-chain would still be visible…
BUT: it is not, because i moved away the DNS from EZOIC.

FACT: the redirection-chain only appears, when I switch to EZOIC, which means, the problem is located on YOUR site.

I will switch DNS back to EZOIC now, so you can continue looking for the technical problem. And I hope, I will not again get the answer, that the problem is located on my site… that really sucks.

Ok, hopefully someone writes down, what exactly the process is, to fix this error. I am sure, we will need the tutorial again in some weeks or months…
