DNS - The address cannot be proxied

indy Hi, the reason for the issue seems to be that the value you inserted in Ezoic isn't correct. Are you able to send us a screenshot of the DNS record from the host provider please so we can take a closer look? If the record is correct we can also ask the tech team to look at adding it on the backend.

The record is correct. I've copy pasted and checked for any leading or trailing whitespace.

I've just done some more investigation and it seems that the specific string ".sendgrid.net" is the issue. Any variation, sendgri.net, sendgrid.com, sendgrid.nt are all acceptable to the UI. Entering "sendgrid.net" is accepted but add the leading dot/full-stop/period to create a sub-domain and the UI complains that "The address cannot be proxied."

I've tried to enter .sendgri%64.net in an attempt to trick the parser into accepting the value but it decodes the string then filters it.

indy We are unable to add the address part of the record as white space is not allowed in a DNS record address. I can try adding 'msg.domainkey.u' but I would firstly recommend reaching out to your hosting provider or support to confirm the correct target value for the CNAME record and ask if the additional components ('35.wl' and '6.sendgrid.') are necessary for your specific setup

Thanks for your reply.

The entries as you see them in the screenshot are redacted. The "real" values are continuous strings, no whitespace or other illegal characters. Sorry I wasn't explicit that this was the case. What you see as whitespace is where I "erased" the real value. Perhaps next time I'll paint over in bright green 😆

Just so we're all clear that this is a problem with the "sendgrid.net" portion of the string:

Just to show that Cloudflare is not blocking the sendgrid.net domain, here I have edited the above sendgrid.nt domain in the Cloudflare UI and it is accepted as valid without the proxy

Can you send us the actual entry you're trying to input?
We can try adding it on the back-end / have the technical teams responsible for DNS maintenance take a further look, but we need the explicit example to do this.

indy thanks - it let me add this dns entry for you on the back end. Not sure why it's not letting you add it on the front end, but we can pass that feedback along to the Tech team to take a look.

On another note, I would also mention that you have a CNAME www record pointing to the address "cerberus-mvp-beta.azurewebsites.net". It's worth checking this is the correct address value by logging into the dns list in your hosting account, as typically we would see that the www record would have a value corresponding to the domain name, e.g "tailster.com". If you discover you need to update the copy of this entry at Ezoic, you can do it by finding the entry in your Ezoic dns and clicking the pen on the right symbol to edit it.

Hi Emily,

Thanks for that. Please forward to the Tech Team. I don't think it acceptable to be having to wait to update DNS records (and doing so in public). Let me be clear, I'm happy with the speed of the updates in terms of Customer Support but not in terms of DNS updates.

There are two other records that are causing the same error. They're currently set as "sendgrid.nt". Could you update them to "sendgrid.net" please.

indy The Tech team confirmed that you should be able to add these entries on your side and this was a bug that they have now fixed. Could you try clearing your cookies, logging back into Ezoic again, and attempt to make the updates again? You may need to delete the existing records you're trying to edit and just add new ones instead. If for some reason it doesn't work, please send a screenshot of the most recent error and we're happy to get back in touch with Tech.
